7 Ways to Keep Your Scrubs Looking Brand New
When you have a set of quality, durable, luxuriously comfortable medical scrubs, you want them to last as long as possible. You want as many shifts out of those scrubs as you can get. To ensure that you get the most wear out of your favorite medical scrubs, follow these few simple steps on properly washing, drying, and caring for your uniform.
- Pre-Wash
After purchasing your new scrubs, prewash them with about ½ cup of vinegar. This helps to settle the colors, helping your scrubs last longer.
- Use Proper Laundering Techniques
The first rule to properly laundering your scrubs is to check for washing instructions on the label! Once you’ve picked out all of the red flags (cold water only, hang to dry) you’ll know what your scrubs need. When washing in a machine, always set the load on large so that your scrubs have plenty of space to clean and rinse. Add vinegar for sanitation, or bleach if necessary.
- Line-Dry if Needed
Once again, check your scrubs’ tags for washing/drying instructions. Many fabrics cannot be put into a dryer, and need to be line-dried instead.
- Stay on Top of Stains
Use a spot treatment pen, or a mixture of hydrogen peroxide/baking soda, whichever is the most safe and convenient for on-the-job stain treatment.
- Only Wear Your Scrubs at Work
It’s tempting to wear our scrubs outside of work, given how comfortable and well-made they are. However, the more frequently we wear them at home or in the backyard, the sooner the fabric will break down and fade.
- Hot Iron
Using a hot iron is a great way to keep your scrubs looking professional, sleek, and of course wrinkle-free.
