Prioritizing Your Comfort with Luxury Scrub Fabric
You put in long hours in your scrubs, so you want them to be as comfortable as possible. Apart from style and sizing, the fabric is an essential part of what makes a set of scrubs comfy. Read here about the most common types of fabric used for scrubs, then go try them on and see how they feel!
Poly-Cotton Blends
Blue Sky Co. uses the most popular material for scrubs, a poly-cotton blend that is 65% polyester and 35% cotton. It has a softer, lighter feel than 100% cotton. Poly-cotton blends are also less susceptible to shrinking or pilling. They don’t breathe as well as cotton, however, so if you often are breaking a sweat at work, consider trying 100% cotton for comparison.
Cotton
100% cotton scrubs have high breathability, so you’ll feel light and cool for all-day comfort. Initially not very soft, cotton becomes softer over multiple washings. That said, cotton scrubs are more high maintenance. They take longer to dry and require ironing, and they are generally more expensive than polyester and polyester blends. They might also shrink in the wash, so wash them with cold water and consider how possible shrinkage might affect sizing and comfort.
Finally, cotton is hypoallergenic, so it is probably the best choice if you have sensitive skin!
Polyester
Polyester is another comfortable option. It’s the least breathable material of the three, which comes in handy if you need to keep warm in cooler environments. Despite being less breathable than cotton, polyester wicks away moisture for a fresher feeling. So if your role at work is a particularly active one, 100% polyester might be an excellent choice to compare with 100% cotton. Like the poly-cotton blends, polyester is more low maintenance than cotton, drying quickly without wrinkles.
